Seekins Soundly Defeated

Thanks to your support, District D voters held Ralph Seekins accountable for his record in the Alaska State Senate. (Click to see vote totals). Your generous donations enabled us to invite television and radio audiences to check the facts for themselves, and to ask Mr. Seekins the tough questions about how his record squares with his rhetoric. We are glad that voters overwhelmingly agreed with the premise for our very existence: “Seekins does not deserve to go back to Juneau.”

His record in the Senate has shown time and again that he favors corporate interests over those of his constituents, closed government over open government, and those who violate the public trust over those who would expose their ethical lapses.

Seekins Record vs. Public Interest

Below are specific examples of Ralph Seekins' public record, all of which have been carefully researched. Click on each bullet item to get links to more details and official source documents.

Taxes

Seekins is hiding his real record on taxes. He voted to impose new taxes on average Alaskans, to the tune of $341 million per year!

Permanent Fund

Seekins extensive record of raiding the Alaska Permanent Fund.

Longevity Bonus

Seekins voted to eliminate the longevity bonus for Seniors. The bonus cost about eight dollars a day for each senior citizen who participated.

Ethics/Corporate Politics

Seekins introduced bills that could jail whistleblowers like Sarah Palin.

Seekins voted to gut Alaska's campaign finance reform laws.

Seekins sponsored a bill that allows most corporate heavyweights to conceal their lobbying activities.

Corporate Welfare

Seekins supported legislation that allows BP to deduct their ongoing $170 million corrosion and leak repairs from their state tax bill. This deduction annually shifts tens of millions of dollars in tax burden away from Big Oil onto other sources--like us.

Seekins introduced legislation that would give North Pole refinery owners about $33 million per year.

Other Issues

Seekins supported the controversial purchase of Murkowski's jet.

Seekins opposed Alaskans' right to elect a US Senator when filling a vacated seat.

Seekins Character

Important character traits may be revealed by Seekins' handling of the debts he owed the heirs of his deceased business partner.

What others say.

Did Seekins' APOC filing rely on loopholes to hide the details of multi-million dollar transfers from the oil industry to Seekins Ford Lincoln Mercury?
